The "Charter on Journalistic Ethics in Relation to Respect for Religion or Belief" is a fiendishly clever media control tool invented under David Miscavige

Read it here: https://www.standleague.org/resources/freedom-of-religion-and-human-rights/charter-on-journalistic-ethics-in-relation-to-respect-for-religion-or-belief.html

This document is jam-packed with politically correct platitudes of all kinds imaginable. Every type (well, almost every type) of discrimination is forbidden. There is nothing to protect gays, as that would make the charter less palatable to conservative religions, thereby making it less useful. This absence is curiously hard to notice amidst all the other devout bromides.

Rude and insulting language is strictly prohibited though, as is any type of bias that could be seen as anti-religious. There are multiple shoutouts to human rights. Numerous generic behavioral rules and norms are spelled out. Islam is specifically protected by a ban on linking any religion with terrorism.

So, in today's cultural climate, there is NO WAY any organization could refuse to sign this charter.
But tucked away somewhere in this body of text is the following little statement:
"A responsible media refrains from reinterpreting, misinterpreting, analyzing, assessing or examining religious beliefs or the expression of these beliefs."

Checkmate, reporters and journalists!
No media organ will ever again be able to mention Xenu, or to describe disconnection, or "The Hole".
