ultrashort SF: M-Portals

A secret briefing from World Security is always exciting, even if it usually means great pain to come.
It began with detailed introductory charts and diagrams. They mostly showed that whatever was happening was very complicated. Then came the speech representing their collective insights:

"The aliens are capable of remote manipulation of matter across intergalactic distances."
"Creating what we call an M-Portal, takes exactly as long as it takes light to travel across space from there to here."
"Their nearest base is thirty thousand lightyears away."
"For the past thirty thousand years, they have been slowly rearranging and organizing the matter inside hundreds of our larger asteroids. Making them more complicated and organized."
"Now they're here at last. They are breaking through the surface at over three hundred locations in the Solar System."

Diagrams showed parabolic orbital streams spreading out, too slow to see the movement in real time.

World Security briefings were designed to force decision makers to rapidly face unpleasant truths:

"This is not really an invasion. It's no coincidence that they are emerging right now, at this point in history. The effects aren't limited to the interiors of Main Belt asteroids."
"It seems history has been leading up to this point, even if they haven't directly influenced us yet."
"We are part of what's happening here. That means that whatever strange thing they want, we are likely to agree with it. Or at least some of us are likely to agree."

NOTE:
This idea should have been used in that Tom Cruise "War of the Worlds" movie, to explain where those underground robot attack things came from.
